Some Teeth Diseases
Bad Breath
- Clinically bad breath is called halitosis. Bad breath results from
poor oral hygiene habits but can be a sign of other health related
problems. All the food that we eat actually begins to break down in
mouth, as we know that digestion starts in mouth and after digestion
and assimilated food goes into the blood stream thereby enter lungs
producing bad breath. If proper care is not taken like brushing and
flossing of teeth, the food particles remain in mouth that leads to
bacterial growth between teeth and gums or even on the tongue,
resulting in fermentation causing bad breath. Smoking and intake of
tobacco in any form also promotes bad breath. Persistent bad breath may
serve as warning signs of diseases related to gums. If not taken proper
care, may lead to permanent damage to gums. Other dental problems like
plaque and xerostomia commonly known as dry mouth can also cause bad
breath. Even improper cleaning of dentures may also lead to bad breath.
Some method of prevention of bad breath
- Brush regularly with Herbodent toothpaste early morning and before going to bed. It also works as mouthwash.
- Use tongue cleaner
- Stop smoking and use of tobacco
- Drink lots of water
- Try to rinse your mouth after eating.
Gingivitis -
Commonly known as gum disease is a series of bacterial growth in oral
cavity leading to tooth decay and destruction of gums. Early stages of
gingivitis lead to plaque formation that causes inflammation of gums.
Gums often swells up and bleed on brushing. If at this stage no proper
care is being taken then it may lead to a condition where debris starts
collecting in the inner layer of gums that lead to creation of gaps
between the tooth and the tooth pocket. Now these debris infect the
bacterial growth therefore leads to secretion of certain harmful
substances that in turn causes loosening up of tooth grip with the gum
causing loose tooth. This is the major cause of loss of tooth in adults
and aged people. This phenomenon is commonly called as periodontitis.
It presents the symptoms like bleeding of gums on brushing, inflamed
gums, bad breath, bad taste of mouth, loosing of tooth etc.
Tooth discoloration -
Normal colour of our tooth varies from white to creamish in colour. But
sometimes it is seen that there is darkening in colour of tooth. Which
may be because of following causes commonly seen theses days.
- Overuse of food and drinks like coffee, tea, alcohol especially wine, potatoes that has a staining effect on teeth.
- Smoking is another major cause of discoloration of tooth.
- Not brushing properly or regularly, might also lead to discoloration.
- Not proving proper hygiene to your oral cavity.
- Excess use of fluorides may also lead to tooth discoloration
- Use of medicines like antibiotics especially tetracycline have adverse effect on tooth coloration.
- Age is another factor
- Hereditary factors are also responsible.
Tooth cavities - A
very common problem now a days especially amongst young people. It
occurs because of destruction of tooth structures i.e. both outer and
inner (known as enamel and dentine respectively). Now due to improper
feeding habits and non-maintenance of dental hygiene, causes bacterial
infestation, which intern secrets toxin. When these toxins combines
with the acids present in mouth and other precipitating factors, it
leads to creation of holes in tooth, medically termed as tooth cavities
or dental caries. It is an advanced condition of tooth decay. All the
reason that contributes tooth decay is the cause of tooth cavities.
When we don’t follow oral hygiene, it results in deposition of debris
in the cavities already created that becomes the feeding ground of
bacteria, thereby promoting fermentation resulting in bad breath,
further destruction of tooth and diseases like gingivitis and
periodontitis.
Plaque - It
is a thin colorless, sticky coating of bacteria on teeth, clearly
visible when teeth are not brushed properly. Rich carbohydrate diet
like dairy products, chocolates, cakes, soft drinks are the main cause
in producing plaque. Due to bacterial, action if not taken proper care
these plaques can lead to destruction of the tooth commonly termed as
tooth decay.
